Are white fillings mercury free??

Im interested in mercury free fillings are those also called "white fillings?

Are white fillings mercury free??
Oh, Brother! Another "fluoride is poison" zealot!

No reputable scientific study has said that fluoride is harmful in the small doses put on your teeth. In fact, the consequences of NOT treating teeth early with fluoride are far more serious than any complication from using it.

There are all kinds of nut-cases, conspiracy theorists, and just plain ignorant people out there. They do nothing but instill needless fear in people about the air they breath, the water they drink, or the foods they eat.

Use reasonable common-sense and you will do fine.

Yes, composit fillings are mercury free. But removing functioning amalgam fillings can cause release of mercury and disturb a healthy tooth. Better to leave them alone unless they are failing.

Almost any substance, when used in excess can be "toxic". Stop pandering to fear and hysteria and read real scientific research before making up you mind.
Reply:Yes they are. They are made of acrylic.
Reply:Yes, but still toxic talk to your dentist and ask to read the label!

They legally have to let you see the ingredients!
Reply:White fillings are either called "resin" or "composite". Some people refer to them as "tooth colored". And yes they are mercury free.

And Im sorry, but I just have to add that Mother Peanut who just answered has no idea what she is talking about. She is obviously repeating some rumor that she heard somewhere. They are not toxic. And even if you read the list of ingredients, would you even know what they were? That is just a really unintelligent answer, so I hope you don't believe that one. The FDA and ADA monitor all dental materials and we would not be allowed to use "tooth colored" fillings if they were toxic. That is just dumb.

People like that is why I have complained that there are too many people giving stupid dental advice to people who have serious questions. There are alot of assistants, hygientists, and dentists on here, and you really should lean more towards what one of them tells you than someone with no dental knowledge.
Reply:My dentist tells me they are mercury free and they better be as I have replaced all my old silver fillings and it cost me a pretty penny.
Reply:Yes!!!!!
Reply:Yes, and you get to retain a lot more of your natural tooth material. With amalgam fillings, they have to drill a large trapezoid shaped hole so the amalgam will stay in, but the white fillings are epoxied in, so far less tooth is removed.
Reply:Hey Husky Mom...

Is flouride toxic? YES it's poisonus and dentists regularly

treat peoples teeth with it.
Reply:fluoride is in your drink water.
Reply:All fillings can be considered mercury free . White fillings are made of a silica or plastic base and the common silver filling is formed of a silver amalgamated with mercury much as sodium is reacted with chlorine to form table salt . There is no free mercury to worry about . White fillings on the other hand look good but can leak around the edges and have very little wear resistance compred to gold or silver amalgams.
Reply:Yes, they are.
