Can I get fillings without my mum knowing?

I’m 14 years old and I live in Scotland and I’m pretty sure I need fillings. I was eating some sweeties the other day and a tooth hurt and when I looked in the mirror there is two teeth with brownish holes in them. They’re not that big but I know they probably need fillings in them, so is there any way I can get them done without my mum knowing?

I don’t want to tell my mum cos she’ll be dead angry. She always makes this huge deal about looking after our teeth and we’re not suposed to have sweets or coke or anything like that, but I have them at school and she doesn’t know. And she always makes it really clear that getting cavities is really bad and that she’ll be disapointed if we get them and my big brother and sister still don’t have any and they’re 20 and 17.

So can I just phone and make an apointment myself and go get the fillings done? Or does my mum have to sign a form or anything?

Can I get fillings without my mum knowing?
I'm not sure, but I think if you're under 16 then a parent has to sign a consent form before you can get any kind of treatment done, sorry. It might be worth trying to find out if your brother could sign it since he's over 16 if you're really that set against telling your mum.

My mum was a bit like that too when I was younger, so I know what it's like - I was always really scared whenever I went to the dentist incase he said I needed fillings. Now I'm 24 and I hadn't been to the dentist for 10 years until recently and I need to get fillings in almost all of my teeth......I still haven't told my mum because I'm scared she'll be angry with me!!!

But you really do need to get these cavities filled before they get worse, so you might have to just face up to the consequences and tell your mum I'm afraid. Good luck!!!
Reply:Depends on your age.....

By the way, besides brushing regularly, the PH level in your mouth has an effect on your teeth and gums.

Some people have high or low PH and have great teeth with lousy gums, or great gums and weak teeth.

Go as soon as possible though, the longer you wait the more expensive it can get.

(I'm sure she would rather you tell her than wait.)
Reply:My daughter has been to the dentist herself but she has never had any work done. Phone the dentist and ask.

I am sure that your Mum would rather be there for you if you needed a filling than find out you had gone alone. I know I would be upset with my daughter.
Reply:if you are old enough
Reply:Dentists charge a lot of money in the US, but I don't know if it's the same in Scotland. Also, in the US, parents have to sign for any medical or dental work done on minors under the age of 18.

You do need to get those cavities fixed by any means possible. I am one of six children in my family, and three got a lot of cavities, the other three hardly any.

I wish you well.
Reply:if your 14 years old a dentist can't treat you without your mothers consent
Reply:Give your dentist a call and find out. You could always tell your brother or sister (whoevers 20) and get them to go with you, there over 18 so they can sign for anything.

lf that doesn't work then just tell your Mum, and anyway, you don't only need filling trough to many sweets.
Reply:why not tell your mother if you need fillings she will come with you
Reply:i think that you should tell your father if your mother do not care so what he says or if not go to mom again and really show her what you are talking about. maybe she will see what you are talking about far as you needing filling
