Fillings...help me?
Hi! I have worked as a dental assistant for 7 years and I have done soooo many fillings in that time. It is only normal to be scared because you have never experienced this before. It really is a pretty easy procedure. They will get you numb before they start the procedure. Once you are good and numb they will remove all of the decay with the drill. If the decay is more than one surface(goes in between the teeth) then they will put a band on your tooth to hold the filling in place and to create a contact between the tooth in front or behind it so you can still floss between your teeth. They will then put a solution inside the tooth and dry it with a high intensity light. Once that is done then they will put you filling in. After they remove the band from around your tooth they will adjust the bite to make sure that you are biting even and that you are not hitting on that tooth first. Then you are done! You should not eat anything until all the numbing goes away because you could bite your cheek or tongue and not even know it. Sometimes when the numbing wears off the tooth is a little sensitive and that is normal so don't be alarmed. The bite may still be a little off as well because when you are numb you might not bite normal so if it is then you can just call your dentist and he can adjust it some more. You are going to do fine. There is no need to worry!
