Are the tooth colored fillings (white fillings) more durable than the silver? Do they last longer and are more strong? Or are both silver and white just as effective, only the difference is the white fillings look nicer?
I need to know as far as cost, because I am getting two fillings replaced, which are silver, but do not want to do silver again if they are going to crack easier down the road or whatever....
Question concerning types of fillings for the tooth?
the silver ones work better on the molars and bicuspids( back teeth) because they are strongest and that is where you do m ost of your chewing. I would only recommed white ones in the back teeth if the cavities are real small.
Reply:I don't think it matters, I think white is for appearance, I had a white one that cracked, and I've had my silver ones forever with no problem. Plus my insurance didn't cover the white.
Reply:Ive had problems with my teeth from a young age. Ive had silver fillings put in when i was 10, I am 20 now and they are still there. I also have 2 white filling, they look ALOT better and I haven't had any problems with them so far. So i guess it all depends on which dentist you go to and how much money you are prepared to spend.
