I'm almost 24 and I guess I can't say anymore that I've never had a cavity...because I have a few small ones that I need to get fillings for. I'm gettting composite fillings tomorrow (3 I believe) at 9a. I then have a bridal shower at 1:30, where I plan on eating...and I guess I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to or not. I don't really know what the "drill" is (get it? drill? lol) with eating before and after getting fillings (and I need new sealants shortly thereafter, and I can't remember that either).
Will I be able to eat and enjoy myself? Will I still be numb? Will the fillings need time to harden or anything? I guess I just want to know what to expect...so I know if I should seriously mow down before to hold me over if I can't eat for a while (I'm a constant grazer...).
Any info would be helpful. Help to calm my nerves...
Can I eat before/after I get fillings?
If they are indeed small, then don't worry. Even if you need to get numb, chances are it will not last until 1:30. Since you are getting composite, they dont require any time to cure, they are good to go before you leave the office. It's only the icky old silver that needs time to cure. Sealants are no biggie either, they too are hard before you leave. Plus, you dont need to be numb for those. Dont sweat it at all, have fun at your shower. :)
Reply:You can eat, but, you will be numb for a few hours after...yes you can enjoy yourself...it's no big deal
Reply:you cannot eat before
and after the fillings because they numb your mouth and give your flouride [sometimes] the numbing agent and flouride should have worn off by 130 so youll be peachy, but be VERY careful with what you eat dont go from hot foods to cold foods and drinks fast it will cause the shrinking and expanding of the filling and it could crack your tooth further
good luck and have fun
Reply:eat breakfast, just make sure you brush your teeth really good before you go. You'll be fine for the shower, just watch your tongue if it's still a bit numb.
Reply:my boyfriend just got that done a few days ago.. they usually give him something to numb the pain, but this time they were so small that he didnt even give him anything, and although it kinda stung- really, he said it wasnt bad, he could eat anything and was fine afterwards.. dont worry, i guess its not too bad..
Reply:you can eat before, but not for like an hour after. Don;t sweat it, my 6 year old daughter just had it done and she didn't even cry. They pretty much make it painless nowa days. you will not be alloud to eat anything hard or chewy(sticky) for like 3 days. Don't get yourself too worked up about it, it will be over before you know it! Best wishes to ya!
Reply:It all depends on how deep the dentist will have to drill.
Shallow drilling can be done without any anesthesia. You might feel some discomfort afterwords, but you should not feel any Sharpe pain. It will also be sensitive to heat, cold, and pressure but not too badly.
If the drilling has to be deep, an injection will be given, and your mouth will feel as if lots of cotton has been stuffed in it. You are at great risk of biting yourself at this stage, and you won't notice it until you start to bleed.... It is not recommended you eat much until the numbing goes away.
After the numbing is gone, you WILL feel pain. Very sensitive to cold, heat, and pressure for several days, although it will be tolerable.
You can eat before the procedure. After the procedure, you should be able to eat in few hours. Just be very careful so you don't bite yourself....
Reply:Eat, drink and be merry. You can eat before and after the fillings, that's the great thing about composite fillings! You may still be numb, so be careful not to bite your tongue, lip or cheek. Have a good time at the shower tomorrow and don't worry about getting the fillings; they're very easy!
Reply:I just had all of my old metal fillings changed to resin/composite fillings last week... eat before if you're hungry... the numbness should just be wearing off around 1:30 and you'll likely be able to eat without any problems. These fillings harden during the process (layer after layer) with the use of a bright light... it's a little time consuming--but not bad at all.
