i just went 2 the denist 2day and they told me that i have 4 cavities...
does it hurt 2 get fillings?
im so scared!
i hate the dentist!
Fillings....?
I've had a few fillings before.
They numb it, so it doesn't really hurt that much.
more just uncomfortable.
You've got nothing to worry about : ]
It will be over before you know it.
Otherwise, if you don't get it fixed, they'll be causing you more pain in the future.
good luck : ]

Your dentist should give you shots (which hurt a little, at first, like any shots) to numb you. My dentist has a signal he wants me to use with my hand if I feel anything (so I don't just bite him or anything!).
I've had 4 fillings and a root canal (that's what happens when you don't treat a cavity and the tooth gets infected). I promise having the filling is a LOT less painful and less expensive. During the filling, I felt some pressing in my mouth, but no pain -- even after it was done. It took less than an hour.
The root canal took two days of work plus being fitted for a crown to protect the tooth, and then getting the crown. While the tooth was infected, I could barely eat or sleep because I was in too much pain.
If you're really frightened, get a referral to someone who does "sedation dentistry" -- they knock you out with a sleeping pill and then do the work -- or ask for nitrous oxide besides the anesthetic. It's called "laughing gas" for a reason.
Good luck. You'll be fine!
Reply:Well if you wanted to get you teeth filled 100 years ago it would have hurt a lot, but today with new methods and drugs you will not feel a thing. let me take you through the procedure so you know how it is done. First your dentist will inject you with an anesthetic agent, some dentist may use a topical anesthetic gel to numb the site of injection, then he or she will start removing the infected area of the tooth, following the removal of the infected area your dentist will fill your cavity. I should remind you that after your procedure your tooth will still be numb, so you don't have to worry about any pain because you won't feel anything through the procedure.
Reply:I have had all of my molars filled. I have had the drill on 4 separate occations and I even watched the procedure with a mirror.
They numb your mouth with oragel or something like it first. After your mouth is good and numb, they will give you a shot of novacane. When I got the needle, I just felt a teeny weeny slight amount of pressure when he pushed it in, but absolutly NO PAIN. The pressure felt like he was taking his finger and just pushing on my gum. Nothing to worry about. You lose feeling in your mouth and lips. You barely talk and you can't spit.
He takes the drill and does his bussiness. If the sound of the drill bothers you, just close your eyes and go to a "happy place." You feel NO PAIN when he drills your teeth. The sound just really annoyed me because its high pitch but other than that, it was fine.
He fills the teeth and finishes up. It doesn't take long at all. You could just leave your eyes closed if you are really scared. After the fillings, it takes a couple of hours for the feeling to come back to your mouth so you might drool alittle... lol. When you close our mouth after, it feels like there is a rock between you teeth. It takes a couple of days to get use to the fillings and then after that you forget that you even have them.
Oh, also, I find that chewing really sugary gums stick to the fillings, but you will find out on your own and know which gums to chew and not to chewn.
But basically that is how it is going to go. Good luck and DON'T WORRY.
