I thought it was pretty normal for people to have fillings, but I was talking to some work colleagues today and a few of them have never had any fillings, some have only had one or two. I'm 26 and I've got fillings in pretty much all my molars, I think there have only been a couple of times when I've gone to the dentist and NOT needed a filling lol!!
So how many fillings do other people have? Oh, and what age are you?
How many fillings have you got?
Fillings are not un-common. Buy, what seems to be common is the fact that most dentist are using white instead of metal. I wish mine did, I have 5 and they are all metal. I think a few of those are inlays? I'm mid 20's, I don't think that getting fillings has anything to do with a persons age; peoples eating habits and 'candy gobbling' is what casues cavities which leads to fillings. Most people are, if they have not already going to know what getting a filling feels like in their life.
Reply:None at the minute, but I'm pretty sure I need at least one.......and I did have a couple in my baby teeth, but obviously they've gone now! Oh, I'm 25.
Reply:OK..to begin with, tooth decay is no respecter of age. It can happen to very young children and very elderly senior citizens alike. The number of fillings you need may in reality be vastly different than the number of filings you have. Tooth decay can be the result of poor family DNA, failure to practice good dental hygiene or an illness or disease and the medications used to treat them..."NOW", unfortunately, like any other profession or trade, Dentistry is not without it's un-savory members who have no problem placing un-needed filings or for that matter performing procedures even to the extent of doing extractions and Root Canals that are completely unjustified....sad but true. If you feel you are being told you need filings or other dental procedures that don't seem justified, get another opinion, that's your right and the right thing to do. Good luck and I wish you well.
