Can dental fillings cause bad breath?

I need to get a three teeth filled due to cavities. Can the fillings cause bad breath?

Can dental fillings cause bad breath?
no but the cavities can cause bad breath
Reply:Cavities cause bad breath. Fillings themselves no not smell bad (except during placement), but plaque, food debris, and bacteria can collect around teeth and/or fillings. Rotting food and bacteria cause bad breath... not fillings.
Reply:If you have fillings (especially the old metal kind), you may have tiny cavities forming next to them.

If not, I would say get to the dentist for a thorough cleaning and then maintain it w/ regular brushing and flossing. (make sure you brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth)
Reply:The cavities in your mouth can cause bad breath. Fillings do not.

Make sure you're getting your teeth cleaned as recommended by your dentist. Your brushing habits can also help prevent bad breath. Make sure you brush for two minutes twice a day, brush your tongue as far back as you can each time, too. Floss your teeth before you go to bed.
