Sponge cake fillings?

would a light french cream make a nice filling for a sponge cake? i have to make a cake with a slightly/lighty orange flavored french cream filling. they dont want white cake, so its a toss up between yellow or sponge, i know sponge will gladly hold tons of jam type fillings but would it try to absorb a french cream.

french cream-50% whipped cream 50% custard.

Sponge cake fillings?
sure sounds yummy!!!
Reply:It should work fine if you don't make it to far in advance. Put your french cream in the cake just before serving if possible.
Reply:your sponge cake should be fine with cream filling.throughly cool the cake and refrigerate after filling. another choice would be lemon curd, good old fashioned (cooked)lemon pie filling or how about slicing the cake horizontally, filling with slightly softened sherbet and frosting with cool whip and artificial flower petals to complement your sherbet flavor. keep this one in the freezer til ready to serve. it is so yummy. good luck!
Reply:I'd freeze the cake, then put it together with the filling (the ice it, of course) right before I needed to take it wherever it was going. Serve while still cool, but not frozen.
