Sleeping while getting fillings?

I'm getting a considerable amount of fillings done and I was wondering if it was alright to sleep/nap while I get them done. My mom told me she's done it before, but I don't know how the dentist will react.

Sleeping while getting fillings?
If you are referring to the use of nitrous oxide, not all dentists use it in their office, in fact, few do. Ask yours if he does or if he can bring an anesthesiologist into his office for your visit. I caution you, it is expensive. Some dentists will allow you to take a low dose of a sedative prior to extensive dental work. It is a much cheaper and more practical solution. The dentist can use a mouth prop to hold your mouth open if you doze off. Good luck, AND RELAX!
Reply:i say go for it, they prop your mouth open so it doesnt shut anyway i have slept through a few fillings myself no biggie
Reply:Yea you can but I never tried too...It's hard to sleep when someone is drilling in your teeth and you see all this white stuff from your teeth flying out.
Reply:Well here's what I do. Its OK to fall asleep, but make sure you dont go into a deep sleep like you do at night. Make sure you can rest and be at ease, but stay alert at the same time. It works, and good luck.
Reply:I do it all the time. I ask the assistant for a bite block, for me a small one. When they look at me funny (cause no one likes a bite block) I tell them I'm planning on going to sleep and I don't want the dentist waking me up to tell me to open my mouth wider! That gets a laugh from the assistant and me a bite block and a nap :-)
