I went to the dentist and now my teeth and gums hurt is this normal?

He did fillings, most of my back teeth are all fillings.

But he put this thing on two of my back teeth and tightened them, and now my gums are really sore.puffy and red.

Is this normal?

Yes, it's pretty normal. You'll be sore at the injection sites; you may also be a little bruised if he had to manhandle your mouth to get things done.

The best thing I've found for the soreness is to rinse with hot, salty water. Tastes pretty vile, but you'd be surprised at how much good it does. If it's still bothering you, there are sprays and lozenges with benzocaine in them (such as Chloraseptic) that will provide a little relief. You may also want to take a dose of ibuprofen (not Tylenol - it won't help much) to help reduce the swelling and any local fever, which often occurs.
Reply:yes,

it's normal to be sore for 1 -2 days. it will be sensitive for up to 1 week.

take a pain med if you need.

if it still persist after 2 weeks then return to dentist.

Reply:Yes it is normal. Rinse your mouth our with mouthwash several times a day.

It's kind of like flossing your teeth after you haven't for along time, it irritates them because they aren't used to it.

Some of it might be from the novacaine injection.

Next time find a gentler dentist.
