hello i am going to the dentis in 11 hrs and 30 min and this is for the last part of my fillings needed and for the first part i thought the saying:The worrying is actually worse than the expeiriance itself" is true for me , so i thought the topical gel will numb my gums which will not let me feel the needle which wont let me feel the pain from the drilling of the cavity,BUT I WAS WRONG!!!The gel didnt help numb my gums so i felt the needle (which hurt terribly) and on top of that the needle didint help ,i could feel the drilling of the cavity( worst 30 mins of my life) and i was crying like baby!!! Now nitrous is not an option and i took valium last time but it didint help at all to calm me down. Now I have to go for the last time and i am so scared now cause i have to go over it all agian ,also the first time of the fillings they used the needles on my top front gums but now its on my cheek, will this hurt more or less?,PLEASE HELP!!!
Dentist question?
Your maxillary anterior teeth are harder to numb because the bone is more dense on the top. Usually the worst pain associated with local anesthetic is an injection on the hard palate, or the roof of your mouth. Your cheek side should not be as bad. A lot of times you associate the pressure you are feeling as pain, and in fact it is not. Valium should help with nerves if you take it the night before and the day of the procedure...your weight may also be a factor and you may need more than you are taking. This pain you are experiencing is well worth the procedure because if you let the decay progress you will have to have a possible root canal or extract the entire tooth...and that does not sound fun does it?? You will be fine! After it's over you will be a brand new person!
Reply:If you can give the detail about what is the treatment that you are going through is it Root cannal filling if so then there will be not more needle pucnture needed.
Reply:I hate going to the dentist more than anything else. Yes, they put that numbing gel on (have them put alot of it on). Then you shouldn't really feel the needle prick your gums or cheeks (have them wait a minute after they put the gel one before they prick you). You shouldn't feel any pain from the drilling, but you will have this strange sensation like they are drilling a hole in your skull (which they kind of are), but wear earplugs, it will help alot, you won't hear the drill and it will take your mind off of it, or wear an ipod and listen to soothing music.
Reply:your screen name is the stallion?? Don't be a baby.. the cheek area won;t be so bad, just take an extra Valium. Some times the shots don't work on me at all, this is due to hormone levels in the body... esp for girls. Try to relax, take your IPOD and listen to some cool music
