Fillings??

can you have a filling done without having a injection?

Fillings??
Im sure it can be done... but it would be awful sore. like agony...

although when i got a filling... the sorest part was the injection... but then again the filling wouldnt have been felt.. because the injection numbs you mouth.

Anyway... i don't think a dentist would risk it..

unless they're crazy :D
Reply:Its really up to you. if you prefer not to get numb the dentist will not give you a shot.
Reply:I wouldn't . The needles for the injections are so thin you don't even feel them. Gary Dominicus

It would all depend on how deep the filling is. If the filling has not broken through the enamel into the dentin (underneath the enamel)... then yes, it is possible to have a filling done without an injection.

If the decay is deeper and is into the dentin, pulp, or cementum (around the root)... then you are going to 100% NEED an injection. Trust me on this one.

99% of fillings need injections.... I'm not sure why you wouldn't want one. If you are nervous, remember that most dentists use a topical anesthetic first so you will be numb before you even have the injection. Also, you could use Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) that also helps with pain and anxiety. It's like drinking about 3 martinis/margaritas... its good stuff... I'm sure you will be fine!

Good Luck!
Reply:no because it happend to me. my teeth shocked and was in serious pain.but wen they num your teeth it does not hurt at all
Reply:Yes! I've had like 4 fillings done without having a shot! I hate the injections at the dentist...they are the worst! But honestly, it depends on where the filling has to be in your mouth because when I got my back molars filled, I got a shot. When I got my fillings done towards the front of my mouth, I didn't get a shot.

I asked the dentist to start without the injections just to see what the pain was going to be like, and I didn't feel a thing, so didn't need the shot!

Just talk to your dentist...ask him and I'm sure he'll let you know if you can do without the shot.

Good luck!
