Do fillings hurt?

I have two fillings that are like the size of a pin point. I was just wondring if getting a filling hurts.

Do fillings hurt?
no not really

the dentist gives u an analgesic or applies a gel which makes the area numb so you don't feel the pain at all

just a prick of a needle of the syringe he may give u of an analgesic
Reply:The fillings themselves do not usually hurt, but getting numbed can be painful...
Reply:Oh god, you'll die!! RIP.
Reply:Nope. The filling doesn't hurt. Getting the needle is what hurts.
Reply:not if the dentist gives u the right amount of novacaine first. if no novacaine then yes if the drill hits the tooth root.
Reply:No, the drilling prior to filling hurts
Reply:No!! Get it done or lose your teeth!!
Reply:I had three done the other day with no novacaine. The novacaine shots hurt more than the drilling. The drilling itself is not as bad as people would have you believe. I ask the dentist for nitrous oxide (laughing gas) instead of novacaine because the pain is less. They don't offer that right off the bat usually you have to ask for that specifically.
Reply:yeah the novacain shots hurt more than the actual fillings, i have a few, be warry of dentisats who dont wait for the novacain to set in before they start drilling
Reply:Doesnt hurt at all. Wait until you have to get any removed for braces if so. All they do is take this needle thats about as big as a hair on your arm or leg and put novacain in that side. (nitrous oxide is availabe, i think its tottaly worth it your getting a tooth yanked and your almost laughing) The put it in the very back of your mouth where the gums are and you can feel the poke just a very little bit, you may feel a little weird but it doesnt kill ya. Next they drill the hole in the cavity and then they use some rugged tool. I got ceramic tooth looking ones so they had to use this little light thing.
Reply:i just got 1 filling today. the needle thing wasn't that bad for me though. However when the dentist started she had to stop twice cause i felt pain so she had to put more of that numbing stuff but then it was better and i didn't feel anything. Good Luck!
Reply:i guarantee you that having the filling will be painless compared to getting an abcess on your tooth if you dont get the fillings done. Make sure you have anaesthetic. The needle only stings for a few seconds and is well worth it because then you dont have to worry about the dentist hitting a nerve.
